Melanie O'Neal is a fine art photographer and visual artist exploring identities of chronic and invisible illness in relation to societal expectations of wellness. Recent works focus on deconstructing ableism through raw self-preservation used as a larger means of protesting capitalist institutions. Questions arise in who is worthy of happiness based on socioeconomic factors and how dismantling feminine hysteria myths can empower radical vulnerability. She earned her BFA in fine art photography from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC and is currently working in Raleigh, NC.
